Official Docker images for Express Gateway

Who else is a DOCKER fan around here? Well, we certainly are and it’s not just because they have a cute mascot. Swear. So, what better way to kick it off than with official docker images for our open source initiative – Express Gateway, an open source API Gateway built entirely on Express.js.

Want more features like this?

In case you have not already checked it out, we’re on feathub where you can suggest and vote up the features, extensions or various aspects of our community driven roadmap that you’d like to see in the next release of Express Gateway.

While you’re there – you can thank lascarayf who made a special point to upvote images on Docker. You upvoted, we listened and here we go!

Why Docker?

As a community driven project, we’re excited to add this to our growing list of resources, tools and features because YOU thought it would be magic. (Also – Docker is amazing). If you’re not already familiar with what Docker is about, then hold on because we’re going to break down how you can get started.

First, let’s install Express Gateway. If you have Node.js already installed:

# install Express Gateway
$ npm install -g express-gateway

Then you can create a Gateway:

# create a new gateway using the CLI
$ eg gateway create

If you’re looking for more information on how to get started with Express Gateway, here is a 5 minute easy-to-use guide.

Then, when it comes to how to access the docker image, here’s a code snippet to get you started.

docker pull expressgateway/express-gateway

We also included Docker in our live demo with Joyent: Democratize API Management with Express Gateway & Kubernetes on Triton. Throughout the webinar, you can learn more about how to leverage Express.jsNode.js, and containers on Joyent’s Triton Cloud.
